Potato Scones are a true Hungarian delicacy that combines the soft, tender texture of potatoes with a crispy dough. The scone dough is light and buttery, while the filling is rich and mouthwatering. Potato scones are a perfect choice for a snack, but also a great addition to any meal, as they are easy and quick to prepare.
Scones can be made in many ways, but the potato version is one of the most popular. This dish is a legacy of traditional Hungarian cuisine that everyone loves. They can be served as a meal on their own, but also go well with a good soup.
Peel and boil the potatoes until tender. Mash them and let them cool completely.
Activate the yeast in lukewarm milk.
Combine the flour, butter, mashed potatoes, and salt. Add the activated yeast and knead into a dough.
Let the dough rest for 30 minutes. Then, roll it out and cut out the scones using a cookie cutter.
Brush the top of the scones with beaten egg and sprinkle with grated cheese.
Bake at 350°F (180°C) for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
