Prepare the ingredients: peel and finely chop the red onion and garlic. Finely chop the rosemary.
Toast the sesame seeds in a dry skillet over medium heat for 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown. Set aside.
Heat the olive oil in the same skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped red onion and sauté for 3-4 minutes, until translucent.
Add the chopped garlic and rosemary and sauté for another minute, until fragrant.
Pour in the red wine and balsamic vinegar. Add the brown sugar, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine.
Bring the sauce to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until the sauce has slightly thickened.
Add the toasted sesame seeds and cook for another 2-3 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
Let it cool slightly, then serve with grilled meats, pasta, or roasted vegetables.
