Melt the butter over low heat, then let it cool for a few minutes.
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, and a pinch of salt until well combined.
In another bowl, whisk the eggs, then add the milk and melted butter. Mix well.
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
Preheat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer's instructions. Lightly grease the waffle iron with butter or oil to prevent sticking.
Pour the batter onto the hot waffle iron and cook for 3-5 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
Repeat the cooking process with the remaining batter. Keep the waffles warm until serving.
For the caramel, melt the brown sugar in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly until it melts and turns a dark amber color.
Add the butter and stir until completely melted. Then, pour in the heavy cream and stir until smooth.
Stir in the sea salt and cook for another minute over low heat to allow the flavors to meld.
To serve, drizzle the freshly made salted caramel sauce over the waffles and sprinkle with a little extra sea salt for an even more intense flavor.
