Freshly baked sesame calzone

Sesame Calzone

Calzone originates from southern Italy and is one of the most popular variations of pizza. The sesame seed version adds a special crispness to the dough that perfectly complements the creamy ricotta filling. The dough, drizzled with olive oil and sprinkled with sesame seeds, creates a truly unique flavor that is a perfect choice as a light yet satisfying meal. Tip: For an extra crispy crust, spray the top with a little water before baking, before sprinkling with sesame seeds!

    Preparation Steps

    1

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). If using store-bought pizza dough, let it rest at room temperature for 10 minutes to make it easier to roll.

    2

On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pizza dough to about 1/8 inch (3-4 mm) thickness and cut it into two equal circles.

    3

In a bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, grated Parmesan cheese, minced garlic, salt, and pepper.

    4

Evenly spread the filling over one half of each dough circle, leaving a 1/2-inch (1-2 cm) border for sealing.

    5

Fold the other half of the dough over the filling. Use a fork to crimp the edges and seal the calzone tightly.

    6

In a small bowl, whisk the egg and brush it over the top of the calzone. Sprinkle generously with sesame seeds.

    7

Place the calzone on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 15-18 minutes, or until golden brown.

    8

After baking, let it cool slightly, drizzle with a little olive oil, and serve warm.
