Freshly baked sesame pretzel

Sesame Pretzels

The sesame pretzel is a classic pastry of Bavarian origin, owing its specialty to the crispy baked sesame seeds on top. The history of the pretzel shape dates back to the Middle Ages, when monks made it as a religious symbol. The use of sesame seeds spread later, mainly through Mediterranean-influenced cuisines. The modern version combines German precision and Eastern flavors, creating this mouth-watering pretzel, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It is excellent with a glass of milk, butter or cream cheese.

    Preparation Steps

    1

In a large bowl, combine the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt. Add the lukewarm water and melted butter, then mix until a smooth dough forms.

    2

Knead the dough for about 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. Cover it and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

    3

Divide the dough into 8 equal portions, then shape them into long ropes. Form them into classic pretzel shapes.

    4

Boil 1 liter of water, then remove from heat and carefully stir in the baking soda. Dip the pretzels one by one into the water for about 30 seconds, then transfer them to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

    5

Sprinkle the pretzels generously with sesame seeds, ensuring they adhere evenly.

    6

Bake in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for 15-18 minutes, or until golden brown. Best served fresh!
