Sesame rice served

Sesame Rice

Sesame rice is a classic Asian side dish, often prepared in China, Japan, and Korea. The lightly toasted, nutty aroma of sesame seeds perfectly complements the soft texture of the rice, while sesame oil makes the dish richer and more fragrant. Imagine drizzling freshly steamed rice with sesame oil, then adding a crunchy layer of toasted sesame seeds. This simple yet delicious side dish is the perfect choice for grilled meats, vegetables, or even on its own.

    Preparation Steps

    1

Thoroughly rinse the rice in cold water until the water runs clear. This helps remove excess starch, resulting in fluffier rice.

    2

In a medium saucepan, bring 600 ml of water to a boil, then add 1 teaspoon of salt.

    3

Drain the rinsed rice and carefully add it to the boiling water. Stir once, then reduce the heat to low.

    4

Cover the saucepan and cook the rice on low heat for 12-15 minutes, or until all the water is absorbed.

    5

Once the rice is cooked, turn off the heat and let it rest, covered, for an additional 10 minutes to allow the grains to fully soften.

    6

In a dry skillet, toast the sesame seeds over medium heat for 2-3 minutes, until golden brown and fragrant.

    7

Drizzle the cooked rice with sesame oil and soy sauce, then stir in the toasted sesame seeds and finely chopped green onions.

    8

Before serving, gently fluff the rice with a fork to separate the grains.
