Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C) and grease a cake pan.
In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and baking powder. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk and vanilla extract, until just combined.
Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean and the top is golden brown.
Let the cake cool completely before dusting with powdered sugar and serving.
