Spicy pickled limes served in a jar

Spicy Pickled Limes

Spicy pickled limes are a refreshing and intensely flavorful condiment, perfect as a complement to cheeses, meat dishes, or exotic salads. The natural acidity of the lime harmonizes perfectly with the vinegar, while the chili and hot pepper add a spicy depth to the flavor. Pickling citrus fruits is a common technique in Indian, Mexican, and Middle Eastern cuisines to enrich the flavors. If you enjoy unique and spicy pickles, you should definitely try this recipe!

    Preparation Steps

    1

Thoroughly wash the limes and slice them thinly, including the peel. You can cut them into slices or wedges.

    2

Select a clean canning jar and place the lime slices inside.

    3

In a saucepan, bring the water, vinegar, brown sugar, salt, cinnamon stick, cloves, bay leaves, black peppercorns, and chili flakes to a boil.

    4

Finely chop the hot chili pepper and add it to the brine. Simmer for 5 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

    5

Once the brine has come to a boil, let it cool slightly before pouring it over the limes. It shouldn't be scalding hot.

    6

Pour the lukewarm brine over the limes, ensuring they are completely submerged.

    7

Seal the jar and refrigerate for at least 24 hours. The longer they sit, the more flavorful they will become.

    8

Before serving, let the jar stand at room temperature for 10 minutes to allow the flavors to fully develop.
