Chop the sausage and mix it with the ground beef. Add a pinch of salt and pepper. Shape the mixture into 4 equal-sized patties. TIP: If the meat is too sticky, moisten your hands with cold water.
Heat a grill pan over medium heat and melt the butter. Cook the patties on both sides for 3-4 minutes, until golden brown and cooked through.
Towards the end of cooking, place the cheddar cheese slices on top of the patties and cover the pan with a lid to allow the cheese to melt.
Toast the cut sides of the hamburger buns in the grill pan until lightly golden and crispy.
Prepare the vegetables: slice the tomatoes and red onion, and wash the iceberg lettuce leaves.
Assemble the burgers: Spread mustard on the bottom bun, then layer with a lettuce leaf, the cheesy sausage patty, tomato slices, red onion, and ketchup. Top with the other half of the bun.
Serve the burgers fresh and hot with fries or a side salad. TIP: For an extra kick, offer a selection of spicy sauces alongside the burgers.
