Spicy shrimp calzone freshly baked

Spicy Shrimp Calzone

Calzone is one of the best-known variations of Italian cuisine, and has been prepared for centuries. This spicy shrimp version combines the flavors of seafood with Italian classics. The soft, juicy texture of the shrimp harmonizes perfectly with the spicy tomato sauce and melted mozzarella, while the chili adds a bit of spiciness to the dish. If you like seafood dishes, you're guaranteed to love this calzone! Tip: For an extra crispy crust, sprinkle the top of the calzone with a little water before baking!

    Preparation Steps

    1

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). If using store-bought pizza dough, let it rest at room temperature for 10 minutes to make it easier to roll out.

    2

On a floured surface, roll out the pizza dough to about 1/8 inch (3-4 mm) thickness. Form a large circle, then cut it into two equal halves.

    3

In a bowl, combine the tomato sauce with the finely chopped garlic, chopped chili pepper, oregano, salt, and pepper.

    4

Clean the shrimp, then mix with a little olive oil and the spiced tomato sauce.

    5

Grate the mozzarella cheese, then sprinkle it over the shrimp mixture.

    6

Place the filling on one half of the dough, then fold the other half over it. Use a fork to press down the edges to seal the calzone well.

    7

In a small bowl, whisk the egg, then brush it over the top of the calzone to help it bake to a nice golden brown.

    8

Place the calzone on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 15-18 minutes, or until golden brown.

    9

After baking, let it cool slightly, then drizzle with a little olive oil and serve warm.
