Freshly baked spinach and feta strudel with crispy dough

Spinach and Feta Strudel

Spinach and feta strudel is a truly Mediterranean-inspired savory pastry that is becoming increasingly popular in Hungarian cuisine. The salty, creamy flavor of feta cheese perfectly complements the garlicky spinach, while the crispy texture of the strudel provides an excellent contrast to the flavorful filling. In addition to the sweetness of traditional Hungarian strudels, savory versions are becoming increasingly popular, making this recipe a great choice for a light dinner or appetizer. Perfect paired with a fresh salad or yogurt dipping sauce.

    Preparation Steps

    1

Thoroughly wash the fresh spinach. In a skillet, sauté the spinach with a little oil for 3-4 minutes, until wilted. Add the crushed garlic and let it cool.

    2

Crumble the feta cheese into the cooled spinach. Add the sour cream, beaten egg, salt, and pepper to taste. Mix everything well.

    3

Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

    4

Lay one strudel dough sheet on a clean kitchen towel and brush it thinly with oil. Place another sheet on top and repeat the oiling process.

    5

Evenly spread the spinach and feta filling over the strudel dough sheets.

    6

Using the kitchen towel, carefully roll up the strudel and place it on the prepared baking sheet.

    7

Brush the top with a thin layer of oil and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown.

    8

Let it cool slightly, then slice and serve warm or at room temperature.
