In a bowl, combine the ground beef with salt and pepper. Form into 4 equal-sized patties. TIP: Add a splash of ice-cold water to the beef mixture to improve its texture.
Heat a grill pan over medium-high heat. Brush with olive oil. Cook the patties for 3-4 minutes per side, or until nicely browned.
In a small bowl, whisk together the honey and chili sauce. During the last minute of cooking, brush the tops of the patties with the honey-chili mixture. Allow to caramelize slightly.
Place cheddar cheese slices on top of the patties. Cover the pan to melt the cheese.
Toast the cut sides of the hamburger buns in the grill pan.
Prepare the vegetables: Slice the tomatoes and red onion. Wash the lettuce leaves.
Assemble the burgers: Place lettuce on the bottom bun, followed by the honey-chili patty, tomato slices, and red onion. Top with the other half of the bun.
Serve hot with fries or a side salad. TIP: Offer extra honey-chili sauce as a dipping sauce.
