Székelykáposzta is a traditional Hungarian dish characterized by the perfect combination of sauerkraut and juicy slices of meat. The dish is a real comfort food that we especially love on cold winter days. Székelykáposzta is the pride of the Székelys and offers a real Hungarian taste experience.
The origin of the recipe can be traced back to Székelyland, but the dish has become popular throughout the country. Sauerkraut, garlic, paprika and meat together create a flavor that only traditional Hungarian cuisine can provide. The dish is often made with pork, but it is also delicious with other meats, and almost every household has its own version.
Finely chop the onion and sauté in oil until translucent. Add the diced pork and brown it.
Season with Hungarian sweet paprika, garlic, salt, and black pepper. Add the sauerkraut.
Pour in a little water and simmer over low heat until the pork is tender.
At the end of cooking, stir in the sour cream and cook for a few more minutes.
Serve hot with fresh bread.
