Vanilla Scones

The scone is a traditional British pastry that is extremely popular in the United Kingdom and Ireland. The vanilla version is particularly well-loved, as the aroma and flavor of vanilla perfectly complement the scone's soft, crumbly dough. Preparation Steps

    1

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

    2

Dice the cold butter and rub it into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse breadcrumbs.

    3

Add the egg, milk, vanilla sugar, and vanilla extract, then quickly mix until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

    4

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and form it into a disc about 1 inch (3 cm) thick.

    5

Cut the disc into 6-8 wedges and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.

    6

Once baked, let them cool for a few minutes before serving fresh.
