Prepare the vanilla pudding according to the package instructions, using the milk and sugar. For extra flavor, you can add a dash of vanilla extract.
In a skillet, toast the breadcrumbs with half of the butter until lightly golden brown.
Lay out the strudel dough sheets one at a time on a clean kitchen towel. Brush each sheet with a little melted butter and sprinkle with the toasted breadcrumbs.
Let the pudding cool slightly, then spread it evenly over the strudel sheets. Carefully roll them up.
Place the individual strudels in a lightly buttered baking dish.
Whisk the egg and brush the tops of the strudels to give them a beautiful golden-brown color during baking.
Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (180°C) for 30-40 minutes, or until nicely browned and crispy.
Let it cool slightly before serving, then slice and serve warm.
