Rinse the wild rice thoroughly in cold water to remove any excess starch.
In a medium saucepan, bring the water to a boil. Add the salt and the rinsed wild rice.
Reduce heat to medium, cover, and simmer for 40-45 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the grains have burst open.
Once the rice is cooked, drain any excess water. Stir in the butter or olive oil.
Sprinkle with fresh parsley and freshly ground black pepper. Serve warm.
