Wild Rice Doughnut freshly served

Wild Rice Doughnut

The Wild Rice Doughnut is a special doughnut that combines the nutritious power and slightly nutty flavor of wild rice, which has been used by Native Americans for centuries, with sweet, soft dough. Wild rice is not only rich in minerals but also adds a unique texture to the doughnut, making it airy and slightly crunchy at the same time. This dessert is the perfect choice for those who want to experiment with flavors and make a more unique doughnut that is both traditional and modern.

    Preparation Steps

    1

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, salt, and dry yeast.

    2

Pour the warm milk into the dry ingredients, then add the egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract.

    3

Mix the ingredients until combined, then knead the dough for 8-10 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic.

    4

Add the cooked wild rice to the dough and gently work it in until it is evenly distributed.

    5

Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

    6

On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to a thickness of about 1 cm. Use a glass or doughnut cutter to cut out circles.

    7

Place the cut-out doughnuts on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, and cover with a clean kitchen towel. Let them rise for another 30 minutes.

    8

In a large pot, heat the oil to about 340°F (170°C). Drop one doughnut into the oil as a test: if it immediately rises to the surface and bubbles gently, the oil is ready.

    9

Fry the doughnuts for 1-2 minutes per side, or until golden brown. Use a slotted spoon to remove them, and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

    10

Sprinkle the finished doughnuts with powdered sugar and cinnamon, then drizzle with a little honey for extra sweetness.
