Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Line a cake tin with parchment paper or grease and flour it.
Peel and thinly slice the apples. Toss them with lemon juice to prevent browning.
In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and cinnamon.
In a separate bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, then pour in the milk, mixing until you have a smooth batter.
Pour half of the batter into the prepared cake tin, spread evenly, then arrange half of the apple slices on top. Cover with the remaining batter and arrange the remaining apple slices on the surface.
Bake the cake for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let it cool completely before removing it from the tin.
Before serving, dust with powdered sugar and garnish with extra apple slices or a sprinkle of cinnamon, if desired.
